Mission Dolores Visitor Center houses an interactive and interpretive display relating to Mission Nuestra Senora de los Ais, among the earliest missions established in Texas by Fray Antonio Margil de Jesus. For some fifty-six years, Mission Dolores served the Ais Indians, a division of the Caddo who occupied the East Texas area with the Spanish first arrived.

An archival investigation was undertaken by archivist / historian Adan Benavides Jr. which resulted in the creation of a body of documents (in copy form) to interpret the archeological site and the historical significance of Mission Nuestra Senora de los Dolores de los Ais. The research was undertaken in archival centers in Texas, Louisiana, Arizona, California, Mexico City, and Spain. The materials are composed of 42 distinct rolls of microfilm with approximately 1200 pages of photocopies, and 65 color slides (35mm).

These Archives, stored in a temperature and humidity controlled room, are made available to the casual and serious researcher in a comfortable reading room adjacent to the visitor center.

Modern, spacious archeology laboratory and artifact storage facilities are located in the archive building. Initial inquires have been made and certification as a regional artifact repository is expected.

Across from the visitor center is a 17 acre RV park with 32 level and paved full hook-up sites, sparkling clean restroom and shower facilities, picnic areas, and group pavilions.
